Principal’s Introduction
Dear Families
It's wonderful to be back after my leave and to reconnect with our incredible staff, students, and families. As always, the school is abuzz with activity as we dive into the semester's commitments.
Our teachers are diligently working on Semester One Reports, ensuring that we provide insightful feedback on our students' progress. Meanwhile, our talented students are in full swing with rehearsals for the upcoming EduDance Concerts, showcasing their creativity and passion. In addition to academic pursuits, our students are also gearing up for Winter Sports and Cross Country. It's a time of dedication and teamwork, and we're excited to see our students shine in these endeavours.
As we transition into cooler weather, it's essential to ensure that our students are dressed appropriately. The rain has been making its presence known, particularly during drop-offs, pick-ups, and recess. I kindly remind all families to ensure that their children wear their warm school uniforms and bring along a raincoat when walking to school. Keeping our students dry and comfortable is key to their well-being during the rainy season.
Thank you for your ongoing support and cooperation as we navigate through these busy and exciting times together.
Staff Car Park
As we navigate through the busy days of the school term, I wanted to take a moment to address a matter of safety that concerns us all.
We've noticed an increase in parents using the staff car park for drop-off and pick-up, especially during rainy weather. While we understand the convenience it may offer, I must stress that the staff car park is not a safe area for student drop-off or pick-up.
The layout of the staff car park is specifically designed for the needs of our staff members, with considerations for traffic flow and pedestrian safety. Using this area for drop-off and pick-up can create congestion, visibility issues, and potential hazards for both drivers and pedestrians.
Especially during rainy weather, when visibility may be reduced and surfaces can become slippery, it's imperative that we prioritise safety above convenience. I kindly ask that all parents adhere to designated drop-off and pick-up areas to ensure the safety of everyone in our school community.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in this matter. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out.
2nd Hand Uniform Shop
The 2nd hand uniform shop will be opening again on Tuesday 11 June before school 8-8.30am.
OSHC Expression of Interest
As notified previously, we are currently evaluating tenders for the Out of School Hours Care facility at Newborough PS. The School Advisory Group will undertake a value-for-money assessment to consider the extent each expression of interest satisfies the following criteria:
(a) Suitability of the proposed outside school hours care service;
(b) Respondent’s demonstrated capacity to provide outside school hours care services;
(c) Session fees to be incurred by parents/carers, and;
(d) Licence fee for right to use the premises.
To assist us in our decision, we are seeking feedback from families. Your responses are crucial in helping us make an informed decision when choosing the provider to supply the service as of February 2025. If you currently use our OSHC service or intend to do so in the future, your input is highly valued. Please take the time to complete this survey to share your experiences and preferences.
Your participation is completely voluntary, and all responses will remain confidential. The information you provide will only be used for the purpose of evaluating OSHC providers.
Thank you for your time and valuable feedback.
Please complete the survey by Friday 21 June 2024.
Reports
At the end of this term, your child will receive their Semester One Report. Here are some tips about how to talk to your child about their report:
1. Schedule One-on-One Time:
Set aside dedicated time to review your child's school report together. This demonstrates that you value their education and progress.
2. Emphasise Effort:
Praise your child's efforts and improvements, regardless of grades. Encourage a growth mindset by highlighting the importance of hard work and perseverance.
3. Avoid Sibling Comparisons:
Refrain from comparing your child's performance to that of their siblings. Each child is unique, with their own strengths and challenges.
4. Celebrate Differences:
Help your child understand that everyone learns differently and excels in different areas. Encourage them to embrace their individual strengths and interests.
5. Set Realistic Expectations:
Encourage your child to strive for personal improvement rather than perfection. Set achievable goals together and celebrate progress along the way.
6. Provide Support:
Offer guidance and support to help your child overcome any challenges they may face. Let them know that you're there to help them succeed, no matter what.
7. Foster Open Communication:
Create a supportive environment where your child feels comfortable discussing their concerns or asking for help. Encourage open dialogue about their school experience.
8. Focus on the Positive:
Highlight the positive aspects of your child's report, no matter how small. Celebrate their achievements and encourage them to continue working hard.
9. Encourage Self-Reflection:
Encourage your child to reflect on their strengths, weaknesses, and areas for improvement. Help them set goals for the future and develop a plan to achieve them.
10. Express Unconditional Love:
Above all, reassure your child that your love and support are unconditional, regardless of their grades or achievements. Let them know that you're proud of them no matter what.

Netball News
It’s been a great and “dry” start to the netball season. It’s amazing to see so many returning players and a warm welcome to our new athletes, especially those playing games for the first time.
With last week being National volunteer week, I would like to send a special thank you to the coach/manager volunteers. Without your dedication and commitment, we would not have a club. I would also like to recognise our parent group. Your willingness to help on game day and your support and encouragement offered to our players does not go unnoticed.
Pictured are some of our year 4 and 5 players, accompanied by their year 2/3 siblings after belting out their post win chant. And congratulations to our year 2/3 team who had their first win on the season.
Thanks everyone for your continued support and we all look forward to getting back into it after our long weekend break.
