Update from Principal
Dear Families
I am very excited about my first Athletics Carnival that is coming up on Friday. I know that Miss Tench has been working tirelessly to prepare the students and to organise the day. I hope to see lots of families there to cheer on our students but also to possibly assist the P&C on the day with the sausage sizzle, so all parents get to watch their children compete. I am also looking forward to catching up with families at the shared lunch on the oval between 12 and 12.30pm. The weather forecast looks promising, so fingers crossed we have a fabulous day.
After School Play
Whilst it is great to see families and students ending their day with a quick play after school, it saddens me that we are experiencing some issues with the supervision and behaviour of some students. Once the day ends and we have handed duty of care to families, it is essential that parents supervise their own children and ensure they are following the school rules whist on school grounds. We have had some incidents where some students are playing without a parent present or even if their parent is on school grounds, they are playing in an unsafe manner and causing issues for other students. Additionally, as it is after school, staff are not on duty at this time, and they are not expected to monitor how students are playing. I hope that we can work together as a community to ensure everyone plays safely and follows the Newborough Way whenever they are on the school grounds.
P&C Meeting
The P&C met last night and two of the important items were the booklists and canteen. Please see the update regarding those below. Also, we discussed a few other things including ideas from the community about future school community events and keeping families updated with what is discussed at the P&C. In the next few weeks, I will send out a short survey to families about communication and ideas. Please note, the P&C minutes are available on the school’s website.
Canteen Update
The P&C have voted to outsource the management of the canteen moving forward. We are hoping that this service can commence before the end of this term, and we are aiming for Week 8. I know the P&C will be seeking volunteers to assist with the distribution of the lunches on our scheduled days (canteen days to be confirmed). This will involve 2 parent volunteers giving up about 30 minutes on the scheduled day to put lunches into class baskets and to ensure each order is distributed correctly. We hope that there will be parents willing to give up a small amount of their time so we can continue to provide a canteen service at the school. As more information becomes available the school and the P&C will keep families updated.
Booklists 2025
Due to circumstances beyond our control, our booklists for 2025 will be managed solely through Campion Education. This process will involve families ordering their booklists directly through Campion, should they choose to do so, using the online link/form that will be sent out to families once our booklists for 2025 have been finalised. I would like to thank the P&C for all the work they have done in the past co-managing this process with Campion and I look forward to other ways the P&C and community can be involved in the school.
