Update from Principal
Dear Families
We are now well over halfway through the term, and the end of the school year is rapidly approaching. It's a busy and exciting time as we look ahead to the many wonderful events and opportunities for learning that lie before us. From end-of-year celebrations to final projects, there's so much to look forward to as we wrap up another successful year. Our dedicated teachers are hard at work, preparing student reports and conducting final assessments. These reports will reflect the progress our students have made throughout the year and provide valuable insights into their strengths and areas for continued growth. This is a time to celebrate the hard work and achievements of our students, as well as to look at how we can support their learning journeys moving forward.
As we enter these final weeks of the school year, it's a great opportunity for both students and parents to reflect on the goals set at the beginning of the year and assess how far we've come. Whether it's academic milestones, personal growth, or involvement in school activities, there's much to be proud of. It's also an important moment to look ahead—considering how we can finish the year strong and prepare for the year ahead. There’s still plenty of learning to be done in these final weeks. Let’s keep up the momentum, continue to stay engaged, and finish the year with enthusiasm. Whether it's tackling new challenges or revisiting concepts, there's a lot to be gained in these last few weeks before we transition into the new year. Let’s continue to work together to make the most of these final moments and look forward to all that the coming year holds.
Staff Update
Two of our long-standing staff will not be returning in 2025. Mrs Elisa Phillips and Mr Peter Blanch have both been selected on merit for teaching positions at Wilson PS. Both Elisa and Pete have made outstanding contributions to Newborough PS during their time here. I know the school community will join me in wishing them all the best for their new adventure. They will be sadly missed by all, but we wish them well and hope they keep in touch.
Student Leaders 2025
Mrs Ward and I met with the Year 5 students this week and handed out applications for Student Leadership roles in 2025. We are very excited to read their applications and wish everyone all the best when applying. We know with the calibre of students in Year 5 the selection process will be very difficult. Good luck!
WAMCF Concert
I am so sorry that due to illness I missed the WAMCF on Tuesday night. I have heard that our students were wonderful, and that Addie did an amazing job as one of the comperes and Arini did us proud with her solo. Well done to our choir who were prepared superbly by Mrs Snelson.
Free Dress – Year 6 Camp 2025
It was great to see so many students bring in their gold coins to support the fundraiser for next year’s camp. We raised $435.80. Thank you!
Parliament House – Student Leaders
On Wednesday 13 November, our two Student Leaders Kye and Alice, our two PBW Leaders Hudson and Shakira, Mrs Ward and I had lunch and a tour of Parliament House with Stuart Aubrey MLA – Member for Scarborough. We had an amazing lunch and I think none of us could get over how fancy the lamington dessert was! We learned about the history of parliament and were privileged to be taken to the Aboriginal People’s Meeting Place. The question time in parliament was a very interesting experience and when we left to come back to school, the discussions were getting very animated. I am sure this is an experience our student leaders will never forget. The four students asked very interesting and sensible questions and their manners were impeccable. It was a very special moment for me as principal and wonderful to see how well they represented our school.
P&C Donation to Graduation
I am so pleased to announce the P&C have pledged a donation $1000 towards our Year 6 Graduation to help cover the costs of the Graduation Book. We thank the P&C and look forward to their ongoing support for our future graduates.
Classes for 2025
This year, we will be trialling informing families of their child’s class for 2025 in Week 10 of this year. We feel this may help with any speculation or anxiety of waiting over the summer break. The placements however are always subject to change should we see a significant change to our enrolments or any changes to staff.
Uniform Policy
We have noticed that a few students are starting to wear various forms of jewellery to school. Please be reminded that as per our Dress Code Policy - Jewellery / Make-up - Jewellery, including necklaces, bracelets, rings and nail polish are not to be worn. Children with pierced ears may only wear plain studs or small plain sleepers. Makeup is not to be worn without express permission e.g., for an assembly performance.
Stay home if unwell
Please remember it is best if your child stays home if they are unwell. Simply being sick does not mean your illness is contagious. However, it's best to stay home from school while you have certain symptoms like sneezing, fever, vomiting, or chills. We want to keep everyone healthy as we finish the school year.
Kind regards,
Denise Jeffs

Pre-Primary - Year Five Presentation Morning
Save the date: Tuesday 10th December 8.40am in the Undercover Area
This year, the Pre-Primary to Year 5 Presentation Assembly will be held on Tuesday 10th December at 8.40am in the school’s undercover area. This Presentation Assembly will recognise students, regardless of the Year Level in split grades, who have achieved their classes’ Academic, Citizenship and Endeavour Awards, as well as classroom Fitness Awards and the new 2025 Year 6 Leadership Team.
Academic Award: This award is presented to students who achieve not only excellent results across all learning areas but displays a true virtue of wisdom. These students show a love for learning; they challenge themselves to do better; they show creativity, curiosity, are a critical thinker and respond and act upon feedback. The winners of this award are not always the student who achieves the highest grades consistently in the class. These students earn this award through both their academic achievement and character strengths to pursue academic excellence. If a student is in a split year level class, this award will go to the recipient who displays these qualities regardless of the year level as this is a class award, not a year level award.
Citizenship Award: This award is presented to students for showing excellent civics and citizenship qualities and the virtue of humanity. These students show kindness, teamwork, respect, warmth and are genuine in their approach to everyone. These students show a strength in understanding others and treating others fairly. They set an example in their understanding of what needs to be done and they use their initiative to help others. They show leadership, and modesty, in encouraging and organising others in an unbiased way. The recipients of this award are community minded. If a student is in a split year level class, this award will go to the recipient who displays these qualities regardless of the year level as this is a class award, not a year level award.
Endeavour Award: This award is presented to students that show the strengths that help them persevere, apply consistent effort and set goals to improve. They challenge themselves regularly, face difficulties with a growth mindset, finish what is started, shows valour and bravery and reflects on and talks about their learning and growth. These students want to improve and want to learn and they work hard to do so. Their academic achievement may be at any level as this award recognises student aptitude over academic grades. If a student is in a split year level class, this award will go to the recipient who displays these qualities regardless of the year level as this is a class award, not a year level award.

Newbro Fundraiser
Humans have been drinking wine since ~ 6000 B.C. and this socially acceptable indulgence is here to support the Newbro Dads, yep even if you don’t drink, your friends will appreciate a bottle or two for Christmas. So support our amazing Newbro dads and buy a case or two from our wine fundraiser right now.
Remember our Newbro Dads are all about hosting fun activities that foster engagement between kids and their dad, father figure and other role model dads. Dads who come along can volunteer or just join in the fun. We have dads across all year groups who can provide support and insight about our school and school community. We also catch up socially from time to time to meet new dads and build connection within our parent community.
Best of all most of our events are FREE. To do this we keep activities simple and we fundraise a few dollars each year to keep the P&C treasurer happy ;)
The Wine Fundraiser is a great way to support your school community, so give a gift, share with family, mention it to work colleague and have a merry Christmas!!
Wines are purchased online using the linked page and can be home delivered ($10 postage) or collect from the school for free on Tuesday 10th December which is the last week of school.
