Update from Principal
🌟 Welcome to Term 4!
Dear Families,
Welcome to Term 4!
This year is certainly flying by, and before we know it, we will be celebrating the end of another wonderful school year at Newborough Primary School. We have an exciting and busy term ahead!
Denise Jeffs will be on leave from today until 3 November. We wish her all the very best during her time away and look forward to welcoming her back soon. In the meantime, I will be Acting Principal, so please don’t hesitate to reach out if I can assist with any queries.
This week, we held our Open Board Meeting, and it was wonderful to see non-board members join us as we explored the priority areas of our future Business Plan. The four areas we discussed were:
- Excellent Teaching, Learning and Leadership
- Enriched Learning Environment
- Positive Wellbeing
- Meaningful Relationships and Partnerships
Each of these priorities is focused on providing our students with every opportunity to be the best they can be — both now and into the future.
Kind regards,
Maribel Ward
Acting Principal
🌏 World Teachers’ Day
Australia will celebrate the teaching profession on Friday, 31 October 2025, for World Teachers’ Day. At Newborough Primary School, we are so privileged to have outstanding educators who support and teach our students each and every day.
Let’s take this opportunity to celebrate our amazing teachers for their skill, dedication, and passion in educating, inspiring, and supporting our young people.
A very special and heartfelt thank you from me personally for the incredible work our teachers do — our school would not be the wonderful place it is without you.
🎩 Hats off to teachers this World Teachers’ Day!
Chaplain Services
Our new chaplain Leia Patrick is continuing to work at our school this term. Leia will have incidental interactions with many students across the school based on the needs of our students. If you do not wish for her to be involved with your child, please let us know by emailing the Newborough Primary School email address. If a formal referral or request for chaplain support is made for your child, you will be notified and asked to provide consent through our referral process.
Guidelines for the Class Placement of Students
Newborough Primary School staff are committed to meeting the educational needs of all students. A great deal of thought, planning and time goes into placing children into classes each year. Every effort is made to place each child in a learning environment that will be happy, productive and successful.
Classes at our school are not streamed but are heterogeneous to mirror the diverse nature of our society. Creating equitable and functioning class groups is of paramount importance when classes are formed.
The school plans classes so that as far as possible they do not exceed the recommended class sizes outlined in the relevant industrial agreements, but at the same time do not exceed the resource allocation made to the school.
When placing students, we consider factors during the process of allocating students to classes. These include:
- The balance of male and female students in each class
- The number of students at each year level when composite classes are formed
- The need for support for students with special needs or learning difficulties
- The social dynamics of the cohort of students
- The creation of equitable class sizes
Although each factor is important, each is weighted differently depending upon the individual circumstances under discussion.
The following are not factors considered when allocating students to a class:
- Parent preference or non-preference for a specific teacher
- Child’s previous placement in a composite or single grade classroom
- Teacher preference for a particular student
Parents may inform the school of any special circumstances that they believe needs to be considered when placing their child in a class. Communication regarding matters requiring special circumstances should be submitted in writing to the Principal or via email denise.jeffs@education.wa.edu.au before the end of the school day on Monday 10 November 2025.
Correspondence that will be accepted for consideration may include factors such as:
- Issues relating to learning disabilities or difficulties.
- Issues relating to medical need or physical impairment will be considered.
- Emotional issues which dramatically impact the learning environment.
- Placement of multiples (twins, triplets, etc.) or defacto/step siblings in the same year level.
Correspondence of the following nature will not be considered:
- Requesting or not requesting a teacher by name.
- Requesting a teacher of a particular gender.
- Requesting that two students be placed in the same class unless there is a documented, valid need for special consideration
Deputy News

Welcome To Our New Deputy
My name is Jenna-Lee Fairclough, and I am incredibly excited to be joining the Newborough School Community! I will be working in the office, as acting deputy on Thursdays and Fridays.
I’ve been teaching for the past eight years in Yanchep, and throughout my career I’ve developed a deep love for helping students grow both academically and personally.
Outside of the classroom, I enjoy staying active and spending time outdoors with my partner, Josh and my two much loved dogs - Archie, a Chocolate Labrador, and Maverick, a German Shepherd. On weekends, you’ll often find us hiking in the hills or swimming at the beach, anywhere we can be active and enjoy nature together. I’m someone who loves a challenge and this year I’ve completed a half marathon, kayaked to Rottnest Island for the channel swim, recently competed in Hyrox and recently crawled through the mud at True Grit! I find that these experiences help me bring energy, resilience, and a growth mindset into my teaching, which I aim to pass on to the students as well.
I'm looking forward to working closely with you to support your child’s learning journey, celebrate their growth, and help make their school experience both positive and memorable.
Warm regards,
Jenna-Lee Fairclough
Back to School Booklists for 2026
Newborough Primary School will be partnering with Officeworks for the Back-to-School book lists for 2026.
Book lists will be emailed to parents around the 10 November and orders will need to placed before the 5 January 2026 to ensure delivery or pick up is ready for Term 1 next year.
School List Service prices are available online only and not applicable in store.
It is highly recommended families check student equipment from this year to make a decision on what needs to be reordered for next year such as headphones and the green reading bag. To do this, please feel free to pop into your child’s classroom to check their belongings before ordering for next year. Please do not feel obliged to purchase new equipment if you can reuse items from this year.
While NPS is recommending Officeworks as the preferred supplier, there is no obligation for parents to purchase personal stationary items through them. Parents may choose their own retail provider. However, the texts books on the book list must be purchased correctly to ensure classroom programs can be conducted in literacy and numeracy.
Fitness Medallions 2025 - Discontinued
Traditionally, Newborough Primary School has awarded 2 students in each class from Year 1 - Year 4 with a Fitness Medallion for the most laps run during the year, causing fitness to be based on competition and not on individual improvement. This year our fitness program has morphed into a more inclusive program through including other fitness activities such as fitness team games, skipping, obstacles and brain breaks and less on just running. Students have found this less competitive arrangement more enjoyable; allowing them to challenge themselves with improvement in their own fitness in a non-competitive environment.
Please do not hesitate to contact Karen Tucknott for further information if required.
ThinkUKnow - Parent, Carer, and Teacher Presentation - FREE EVENT
Our school will be hosting a ThinkUKnow presentation on Wednesday 19 November at 6pm and all parents, carers and teachers are encouraged to attend. ThinkUKnow Australia is an evidence-based education program delivered nationally to prevent online child sexual exploitation. ThinkUKnow Australia is a partnership between the Australian Federal Police, Microsoft Australia, Datacom and the Commonwealth Bank of Australia. The program is delivered in collaboration with policing partners New South Wales Police Force, Northern Territory Police, Queensland Police, South Australia Police, Tasmania Police, Western Australia Police, as well as Neighbourhood Watch Australasia. The presentation will be delivered by a local law enforcement member and/or an industry volunteer. The presentation is pro-technology and addresses topics including self-generated child abuse material, online grooming, sexual extortion, and importantly encourages help seeking behaviour. This is a fantastic opportunity for you to learn more about children and young people and the online environment, and how you can help them to be safe and responsible users of technology. For more information, you can visit www.thinkuknow.org.au or contact Maribel Ward.
If you would like to attend please RSVP via the link below so that we know how many people to prepare for.
