Update from Principal
Dear Families
We’re already halfway through Term 3, and it’s been full of excitement! From Book Week to our Athletics Carnival and Interschool Cross Country, our students have shown incredible energy, talent, and school spirit.
There’s still so much to look forward to: School Disco, R U OK? Day, Interschool Carnival, Enterprise Fête, and our Open Board Meeting – mark your calendars!
A huge thank you to our amazing staff for all their hard work and to our families for your ongoing support – together, we make our school community thrive.
Did You Know?
Our students are using something called a Daily Review to strengthen their learning! It’s a 5-minute reflection where students recap what they have learnt each day — helping them remember and connect ideas better. Each day, they revisit key ideas, practice skills, and reflect on what they’ve learned, helping them feel confident and prepared for the next step.
Did You Know?
By asking your child to explain a new fact they learned today helps solidify their understanding.
Did You Know?
That by asking your child what the hardest thing was you learned today, and how did you solve it, helps them consolidate learning—and gives you a peek into their daily discoveries.
Athletics Carnival
What an incredible day we had on Friday! The weather couldn’t have been better, and the whole event ran beautifully from start to finish. We were so proud of the way our students displayed such fantastic sportsmanship and behaviour throughout the day—it really made the occasion special.
A huge thank you to Ms Tench for her outstanding organisation and preparation, to our wonderful parents who volunteered their time, and to our dedicated staff who worked tirelessly to keep everything running smoothly. A special thank you also to our Board Chair Callan Rose for presenting ribbons and helping to make sure every child enjoyed their well-deserved moment on the podium.
Congratulations to our winning faction, Manning, and to all our champion boys and girls. It was a day filled with effort, encouragement, and celebration—we couldn’t have asked for more!

Room 11 & 12 Mayor Visit
Last term, the Year 4 students in Rooms 11 and 12 had been learning about the role of local councils and the impact they have on our everyday lives. As a final project, we wrote letters to our local Mayor Mark Irwin, thanking him for all the hard work he does for our community. We were delighted when the Mayor visited our school to personally thank the students for their letters. During his visit, we had the opportunity to ask questions and gain a deeper understanding of some of the important decisions he makes for our community.

Farewell to Louise and welcome to Leia our new Chaplain
This week we farewelled our much-loved Chaplain, Louise, as she embarks on the exciting next step of her journey—further studies in education. Louise has given so much to our students, staff, and families, and her kindness, care, and support have been deeply valued by our whole community. The creation of our Wellness Room is just one of the many legacies she leaves behind, and it will continue to benefit our school for years to come.
We wish Louise every success in her studies and hope our paths cross again in the future—she will always be part of our school family.
On Tuesday, Louise completed a thoughtful handover with our new Chaplain, Leia, who we look forward to welcoming formally to our community in the weeks ahead. We are excited for the care, energy, and fresh perspective she will bring as she begins her work with us.
Read Leia's introduction later in this edition of the newsletter.
Open Board Meeting
We warmly invite you to join us on Thursday, 18 September, from 5:30–7:30 PM in the library for our annual Open Board meeting.
Come along to see what the board does and hear about the progress we’re making with our new Business Plan. There will be an opportunity to ask questions and gain insight, while the board shares updates on its work.
We’d love to see you there!
R U OK Day Thursday 11 September
R U OK? Day is approaching, and in the lead-up we’ll be taking part in a range of activities to help our students, staff, and families understand the importance of checking in on each other—not just on this day, but every day.
On Thursday 11 September, we warmly invite families to join us for a coffee and a chat between 8.15–9.30am. A coffee van will be on site, kindly organised by our P&C and generously sponsored by Lewis from T&J Real Estate. It’s a wonderful opportunity to connect with one another and start meaningful conversations.
We are also encouraging everyone—students, staff, and families—to wear yellow on the day. A gold coin donation is requested, with all funds raised going directly to a charity that supports the important work of R U OK? Day.
Together, let’s shine a light on kindness, connection, and the simple power of asking, “Are you OK?”
Student Drop Off and Pick Up and Staff Car Park
For everyone’s safety, please remember the staff car park is not a student drop-off or pick-up area. We’ve had some near misses as students and families walk through this space and also reports of cars entering via the exit or backing out after dropping off. To keep our community safe, we ask all families to use the designated drop-off and pick-up areas only. Thank you for your support.
Warm regards,
Denise Jeffs

Chaplain Introduction
Hi Everyone,
My name is Leia Patrick and I'm excited to be appointed as the new school Chaplain here at Newborough Primary School. My role is to help provide support for the emotional wellbeing of students, parents and staff through pastoral care services and strategies that contribute to the overall wellbeing of the school community. Before coming to Newborough PS, I worked as an Education Assistant with special needs children and found that I wanted to help people in the community more. So, I completed further studies over the past couple of years as a Chaplain. Things that I love to do are anything creative, singing and building positive relationships through helping people. I look forward to getting to know the community here at Newborough PS. So, if you have any questions or just want to say hello, please don’t hesitate to come and see me. I’m available at Newborough PS on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
Kind regards
Leia Patrick
Chaplain

Netball Update
It’s been cold and wet, but the kids have loved it. They’ve had some great support, including from Mrs OC who came down in the pouring rain to cheer on the Year 5’s.
Good luck to all the players in their last two games. Especially the year 6’s who are challenging for a finals spot and the year 5’s who are chasing the top of the ladder finish. But most importantly, have fun!
Parents, if your child just can’t get enough and is interested in Spring Netball, don’t forget to visit the PNA website. This isn’t run by the club, so refer to their information pack for how to nominate here.

Then for 4 weeks in 2026, from 30th January until 21st February. Ten (10) weeks total. This format introduces the game and skills in a fun, engaging manner. Cost $109.
The second cricket format is Junior Cricket that runs on Saturdays for Under 10 (Year 4) right through to Under 17’s (Year 12) Teams play in the Central Junior Cricket Association. Check out the links below and contact James if you have any queries.
